Chelsea boss ready to put faith in Courtois

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is ready to recall Thibaut Courtois from Atletico Madrid this summer to make him the Blues’ number one goalkeeper, according to reports from The Metro.

The Belgian international signed for the Londoners in 2011 but is yet to make a single appearance for the club after being loaned straight out to gain experience.

He has since impressed in his three seasons with Atletico, helping the capital-based club to mount a serious title challenge and enter the Champions League.

This has led to talk of a future at Chelsea, but the player himself has expressed reservations about a return.

Courtois is said to be wary of playing a backup role to established stopper Petr Cech, who has been a Stamford Bridge hero for some time.

Mourinho is known to be a fan of the 21-year-old, and is ready to risk making him his first choice in a bid to keep interest from Real Madrid at bay.

Courtois is one of Europe’s most highly-rated glovesmen, and is thought to be more than happy to pursue a long career with Chelsea as long as he is given game time.

Cech is a Mourinho favourite, but the veteran Czech Republic international has endured a relatively underwhelming campaign.
