Chelsea boss unfazed by Guardiola speculation

Manager Pep GuardiolaChelsea boss Roberto Di Matteo insists that the rumours surrounding Pep Guardiola replacing him as manager of the club have not put him under pressure.

After leaving Barcelona during the summer the Spaniard is currently without a job in football, but Blues owner Roman Abramovich is believed to be keen to bring him to the Premier League.

The Russian billionaire has long admired the expansive attacking football played by the Catalan club under Guardiola and despite Di Matteo delivering success, stories that his position is not safe have continued to rumble on.

However, The Italian insists he has the backing of the board and that the speculation does not worry him:

“From day one, the speculation has always been in the papers, so it doesn’t affect me too much.” He is quoted by SkySports.

“I have my own destiny in my hands and the club and the owner is behind it.”

Di Matteo also played down suggestions that failing to advance from the group stage in the season’s Champions League would undermine their success in the competition last term.

“I’m not thinking about that. I really believe this club deserves whatever it can achieve. That’s my position,

“I work here for the club and the players. It’s not about me. I think it’s important for the club to have a successful campaign. That means we need to win tomorrow.”
