Rafa Benitez’s side are ready to offer £5million for the Nigerian, as he looks to build his new squad at the Italian side.
The Spanish manager is keen to add a holding midfielder to his squad, and is ready to fight Galatasaray for Mikel’s signature. Wanting to stay at Stamford Bridge, Mikel has expressed a desire to fight Michael Essien for a place in the starting team.
The 26-year-old could have to fight Daniele De Rossi too, with the Italian linked with the Blues over recent weeks. Mourinho is expected to bring in a new holding midfielder, wether or not Mikel stays at the Europa League champions.
But with first team football on offer at Napoli, Mikel could be tempted to join his old boss at the Stadio San Paolo, should the Italian side submit a bid. The Naples side are willing to offer up to £8million for the Chelsea midfielder.
Mikel made just 22 league appearances for the Blues last season, with Frank Lampard and Ramires often placed ahead of him.
The Nigerian could start for Chelsea in their first game of the new season, when they take on Hull on Sunday at Stamford Bridge.
Should Chelsea accept an offer for Mikel? Or should they keep him instead?
