The Blues have launched a £49.3million bid that is expected to be accepted by the Italian club who are now ironically managed by last season’s Chelsea interim manager Rafa Benitez.
The West London club had an original bid turned down for Cavani earlier this summer that would have included Fernando Torres in the deal taking him to Italy.
Napoli are keen to get all they can for their main man who has a £53million buy-out clause in his current contract.
The 26 year old forward has also attracted interest from Real Madrid and Manchester City in recent weeks and so a bidding war may erupt and the wage demands will be the deciding factor.
Cavani was the top goalscorer in Italy last season and is built perfectly for the Premier League with his size and pace.
