Chelsea enforcer linked with Serie A switch

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is being lined up for a potential summer switch to Inter Milan, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Nigerian international has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge since the January arrival of Nemanja Matic, and could make the switch to Serie A in the hope of finding regular first team football.

The 26-year-old finds the likes of Matic, Frank Lampard and Ramires ahead of him at present, while Jose Mourinho has also opted to use David Luiz as a holding midfielder in recent weeks.

And reports from Italy suggest Mikel is being lined up for a £12.3million move to the San Siro, by Inter boss Walter Mazzarri.

The Inter chief is looking for a major squad overhaul in the summer, with the midfield a priority.

The club currently sit 11 points off the Champions League places in Serie A, after a dreadful season.

And with new Inter president Erick Thohir set to back his manager with a big transfer budget in the summer, Mikel could be one of the first new arrivals in the summer.

Additionally, reports in Italy suggest Chelsea will replace Mikel with Sporting Lisbon midfielder and Manchester United target William Carvalho – despite Sporting’s attempts to tie him to a new contract in the Portuguese capital.
