Chelsea enter race for Arsenal target

Gonzalo Higuain

Arsenal’s move for Gonzalo Higuain has been cast into further doubt following the news Chelsea have expressed an interest in the striker, according to talkSPORT.

The Argentine forward has been linked with a move to the Emirates for the duration of the summer, although now a move appears further away than ever, with the Real Madrid man thought to have told friends that Jose Mourinho is keen to bring him to Stamford Bridge.

Serie A giants Napoli are also thought to have entered the race for his signature, with new manager Rafael Benitez eyeing the 25-year-old as a replacement for Edinson Cavani.

Chelsea have had no luck in recruiting a big name forward so far this summer, with top targets Radamel Falcao and Edinson Cavani both opting for moves to France, with AS Monaco and PSG respectively.

Mourinho appears to have now set his sights on Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney, but the club’s opening offer for the England forward was rejected out of hand.

Higuain has emerged as the latest target following Arsenal’s failure to secure a £25million deal. Mourinho knows the player well from his time at Real Madrid, and would no doubt seek great joy in getting one over his old foe Arsene Wenger.
