Chelsea & Everton News: Sunderland boss reveals when deal will be agreed

As quoted by The Daily Star, Sunderland manager David Moyes has insisted Chelsea and Everton transfer target Lamine Kone will sign a new contract with the club on September 1st.

The Frenchman played a pivotal role in the Black Cats’ Premier League survival last season and is rapidly emerging as one of the division’s most in-demand defenders.

Indeed, Everton are believed to have already tabled an £18million bid, whilst other sources have linked Chelsea with a swoop for the 6 foot 5 centre-half.

Both clubs have been mooted as summer suitors once again by The Daily Star and the 27-year-old appears to be pushing for a move, having handed in a transfer request at the Stadium of Light.

Kone cited a lack of assurances over his future at the club, but manager David Moyes has insisted the former Lorient star is in his first team plans – and that he’ll sign a new contract on September 1st.

As quoted by The Daily Star, he said in today’s pre-match press conference; “We’ve told Lamine Kone he will be offered a new contract in September.

“Lamine is very much part of my plans. We will renew his contract on the 1 September. Lamine is a big part of the team, the fans like him and we need him.”
