Chelsea eye Arsenal target in £43m release clause move

Chelsea are considering a £43m release clause-triggering offer for long-term Arsenal target Antoine Griezmann, according to reports from The Express.

The French attacker only joined current side Atletico Madrid from Real Sociedad last summer, at which time he was heavily linked with the Gunners.

He’s, so far, justified the £22m fee the capital-based outfit paid for him, with his goals and energy having helped the reigning La Liga champions to overcome the loss of Diego Costa.

Atleti have Griezmann tied to a contract that runs until 2020, and are not ready to offer him a better salary due to the length of time left to run and the high pay he’s already on.

This has alerted clubs such as Chelsea to the 22-goal forward, who could grow disillusioned with the situation.

Griezmann is a senior France international and represented his country at the World Cup last summer.
