Chelsea eye England international as shock star replacement

Chelsea are ready to move for Norwich City goalkeeper John Ruddy if they lose back-up stopper Petr Cech this summer, according to reports from the Daily Star.

The Blues could well offload their long-serving Czech glovesman ahead of next season, with the player having confessed that he’s not willing to play a reserve role behind Thibaut Courtois again in 2014/15.

The Belgian returned to the club from Atletico Madrid last summer and has been Jose Mournho’s No.1 through the Premier League-winning campaign.

Arsenal and Besiktas have been heavily linked with Cech, fuelling suggestions he will move away from west London, and if he does, Chelsea will have little in the way of options to cover Courtois, which will force them into the transfer market.

Norwich’s Ruddy is reported to be the top target, with the one-cap England international having impressed in the Championship.

His future, however, hinges on the Canaries’ play-off fate, with the Norfolk side currently tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes against local rivals Ipswich.

Should they not make the leap, the 28-year-old may opt for a route into the top tier, albeit as a benchwarmer at Stamford Bridge.
