Chelsea eye shock move for Barcelona star

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor ValdesChelsea manager Jose Mourinho is weighing up a shock move for Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, according to reports from The Express.

The Spanish stopper is set to leave the Nou Camp once his current contract expires at the end of the season in search of a new challenge.

This has alerted ‘The Special One’, who is believed to be a big fan of the 31-year-old.

Barca won’t stand in the player’s way, and are already lining up a number of targets – including Liverpool’s Pepe Reina – to replace him.

According to reports, Mourinho has made Valdes one of his top targets for next summer, as he goes about further improving his inherited Blues squad.

Barca have been eyeing Chelsea goalkeeping duo Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois, which may cause the Portuguese coach to have to dip into the transfer market to find a new number one.

The only stumbling block could be Valdes’ £8m-per-year salary, a figure that that the Londoners may be unwilling to match due to his age.

The 16-time Spanish international is keen to play abroad, having spent his entire career with the Catalan giants.

As well as Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Monaco are also believed to be interested.

Do Chelsea need Victor Valdes? Or should Thibaut Courtois be given his chance?
