Chelsea face battle for prolific hit-man

Porto's Jackson MartinezChelsea will have to battle off interest from Monaco if they are to seal a January deal for Porto striker Jackson Martinez, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The Blues have been heavily linked with the prolific Colombian for some time after watching him bang in 40 goals in 55 outings since joining the Portuguese giants in 2012.

Despite the ever improving form of the much maligned Fernando Torres, Jose Mourinho is still thought to be keen to add a top class centre-forward to his ranks.

Martinez is believed to be a target for ‘The Special One’, who has close ties with his former club after guiding them to Champions League glory prior to his first switch to Chelsea.

But, Mourinho will have to battle off interest from Monaco, who are keen to continue their lavish spending with a swoop for the South American.

The Ligue 1 side spent in excess of £150m over the summer to mark their return to the French top tier thanks to the backing of their Russian owner, Dmitry Rybolovlev.

They have made an excellent start to the new campaign, and are keen to partner Martinez with Radamel Falcao to form a striker partnership that will rival Paris Saint-Germain’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic/Edinson Cavani front line.

Should Chelsea spend big to secure Jackson Martinez?
