Chelsea face battle for Real Madrid ace

Real Madrid midfielder Xabi AlonsoChelsea will have to fight off interest from AC Milan if they are to convince Xabi Alonso to leave Real Madrid and make a return to the Premier League, according to reports from talkSPORT.

The experienced Spaniard’s current contract with the La Liga giants is set to expire at the end of the season and, as of yet, the club have not indicated that he will be offered an extension.

With the signing Asier Illarramendi and Carlo Ancelotti’s pursuit of Blues midfielder Ramires, speculation suggesting that Alonso may be allowed to leave for free has increased.

Jose Mourinho worked with the 31-year-old during his time at the Bernabeu, and is believed to be a big fan of his abilities.

‘The Special One’ sees Alonso as the ideal man to boost his central options at Stamford Bridge as he sets about making the Londoners England’s dominant club force.

However, Milan are also keen on the deep-lying playmaker, and are set to rival any move for his signature.

Their domestic foes Juventus are also interested, while Liverpool have been linked with a shock move to bring their former star back to Anfield.

Alonso will be free to discuss pre-contract deals with interested clubs in January.
