Chelsea face fight for La Liga ace

Barcelona goalkeeper Victor ValdesChelsea will have to battle off interest from Monaco if they are to secure a January deal for Barcelona goalkeeper Victor Valdes, according to reports from AS.

The Spanish stopper has announced that he is set to leave the Nou Camp once his contract expires next summer in search of a new challenge.

Having won numerous league and European titles, a number of top clubs are believed to be chasing Valdes, with Chelsea’s name in the mix.

However, Monaco are planning a winter move to steal him away from their rivals.

The Ligue 1 side have quickly emerged as one of Europe’s superpowers thanks the backing of billionaire Russian owner, Dmitri Rybolovlev.

Having addressed their attacking concerns with moves for Radamel Falcao and James Rodriguez over the summer, the Mediterranean outfit are now keen to add an experienced stopper to their ranks.

Valdes has been their top target for some time, and the French giants are desperate not to miss out on him.

Chelsea have been linked with a move for the 31-year-old following reports that Barca are tracking Petr Cech.

Jose Mourinho is thought to be a fan of Valdes and sees him as an ideal candidate to replace the Czech international if he were to leave.

Should Chelsea move for Victor Valdes? Or should Thibaut Courtois get his chance?
