Chelsea have failed in a sensational last-ditch attempt to sign Brazilian international defender Marquinhos in a mega money move from French champions PSG, reports Sky Sports.
The Stamford Bridge side are reported to have tabled two bids worth £25.7m and £40.4m (according to Sky Sports sources) for the PSG man, who can play at both centre-half and right-back.
The 21-year old moved to the French giants from Serie A side Roma in 2013 for a hefty fee thought to be around €31m.
The Blues are now unlikely to land Everton defender John Stones, with the 6pm deadline fast approaching and the move for the 6-times capped Selecao star comes a shock.
Papy Djilobodji and Baba Rahman have been brought in by Jose Mourinho so far, with Reading defender Michael Hector reported to be close to agreeing a move to the Premier League champions.
Marquinhos has appeared almost 50 times for the Paris outfit, winning two Ligue 1 titles and appeared in Dunga’s Brazil squad for the 2015 edition of the Copa America.
