How good was Michael Ballack by the way?
Chelsea managed to secure the midfielder’s signature on a free transfer in 2006, and he went on to make 166 appearances for the Premier League club – scoring 25 times in the process.
In terms of value for money and indeed contribution to the cause, few signings in Chelsea history match up to Ballack.
Chelsea took a trip down memory lane on Tuesday when they posted that it had been 10 years since the German arrived in the English capital.
As expected, a number of the Chelsea supporters took to Twitter to hail the now 41-year-old, but there were also plenty that took the chance to blast their club’s recruitment policy.
Indeed, a number of the team’s recent signings just have not worked out, and the club will be absent from the Champions League next season after failing to secure a top-four position in the Premier League.
A selection of the Twitter reaction from the frustrated Chelsea fans can be seen below:
📅 We signed Michael @Ballack on this day in 2006!
12 years on, you can watch him back in Blue as the #LegendsReturn to Stamford Bridge on Friday! 🙌

Chelsea must put many players on transfer. Fabregas, Zappa, Christensen, Morata must be transferred. If Chelsea wants to compete at top level quality players must be brought in. Buy Salah, Shaqiri, Aguerro and Alderweird from Spurs
