Chelsea fans debate future of Kovacic after he respond to questions about permanent stay

Mateo Kovacic was one of only a few signings that Chelsea made in the summer transfer window.

The midfielder was linked to a handful of Premier League clubs, but he ended up signing for the Blues on a season-long loan from Real Madrid.

Since moving to Stamford Bridge, the Croatian, who is valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, has played in 11 games in all competitions, starting nine of them – including twice against Liverpool and once against Manchester United.

At the weekend the midfielder was named on the bench for the Blues’ 4-0 rout over Burnley but he did not make an appearance.

Kovacic faces a battle to maintain a spot in Maurizio Sarri’s team as Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have begun to find form.

This could affect whether or not he joins Chelsea on a permanent deal or return to Madrid next summer.

As reported by the London Evening Standard, Kovacic was recently asked about his future by reporters, to which he replied:

“It’s too early for these questions, I am here and very happy. [Playing regularly] is good, I’m a little bit tired. I was not used to playing every three or four games and here it is very tough football.

“You can’t relax against anybody so it’s a little bit difficult but I really enjoy it. We have a great team, great fans and the city is nice. I like it a lot here.”

Chelsea fans have given their reactions to the midfielder’s remarks via Reddit.
