According to Italia media outlet Sportitalia, via Football Italia, Chelsea have reportedly made contact with the agent of Juventus striker Gonzalo Higuain, rated at £63m by Transfermarkt, over a potential summer move, and Blues fans have been quick to react to the rumour.

Even though the future of manager Antonio Conte is yet to be decided, the west London outfit are obviously going ahead with their transfer plans if reports are to be believed, with the 30-year-old centre-forward, who scored 23 goals in 50 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A giants last term, a target.

The Argentina international admitted just earlier this week that he would be keen to play in the Premier League, and should he arrive at Stamford Bridge he would be competing with Alvaro Morata, Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi for a starting spot – although one of those would surely be on their way if a deal did get done.

Chelsea supporters, the majority of whom believe another £36m centre-forward target would be no better than Morata, took to social media to deliver their verdict on Higuain, and while one said "I'd prefer to play Batshuayi", another said they "would rather keep Morata".

Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
