Chelsea tweeted about defender Davide Zappacosta starting and playing 59 minutes of Italy’s 1-1 friendly draw with the Netherlands on Monday night, and Blues fans were quick to react to the post.
The west London outfit, whose reported move for £36m striker would surely seal Alvaro Morata’s exit, signed the versatile right-sided player – who can play as a full-back, wing-back or winger – from Torino last summer, but he struggled to get much of an opportunity in the XI with Antonio Conte often preferring to play Victor Moses in that role.
The 6ft tall 25-year-old made 38 appearances in total – although most of those outings came from the substitutes’ bench – scoring two goals and providing two assists, but it remains to be seen whether he has a future at Stamford Bridge next term whether Conte or a new manager is in charge.
Chelsea supporters took to social media to give their thoughts on his latest display for his country, and while one said “sell him first along with Drinkwater and Pedro”, another simply said “sell him now”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…

We don't have a place in our squad for players like drinkwater and zappacosta. Sell both of them for £50m and replace them with amapdu and meunier. Sell Pedro and bakayoko and replace them with baily and ruben. #cfc

Hopefully the next time I see Zappacosta mentioned by the club is the announcement of his sale back to Torino for €15m https://t.co/HCrX3tWWSS
