One of the biggest criticisms during Maurizio Sarri’s reign at Stamford Bridge was that he failed to really connect with the club’s fans; the Italian was distant, cold and never really seemed to embrace a potential relationship.
His assistant however Gianfranco Zola is about as big of a Blues legend as there is. The midfield magician carved out an incredible career in west London and his appointment as Sarri’s number two was seen as something to bridge the gaps between the fanbase and the manager.
However, amid Sarri’s exit to join Juventus, Sky Sports have now confirmed that Zola is also set to leave the club when his contract expires this summer.
After hearing the news of the popular Italian being likely to depart Stamford Bridge, many Chelsea fans took to Twitter to voice their frustrations and sadness at the news.
They seemed to admit that news of the potential exit was unsurprising but that it still hurt them to see their former talisman follow Sarri out the exit door.
However, whilst many expressed their gratitude for Zola’s time at the club and declared him a ‘true servant’, some were far more critical of his tenure as a coach and berated him for being ‘useless’ at his job.
Check out some of the mixed reaction of Chelsea fans on Twitter below:
A player who changed the club forever bullied out like this. Extremely sad.

Sad to say but I don’t really see what he brought to the table as an assistant.

As much as he was a great player and a great person, he’s a useless coach

Useless coach and manager. Been living of his career as a player ever since he retired
