According to The Guardian, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has rejected the opportunity to join German club Schalke on loan, in favour of staying and fighting for his place at Stamford Bridge. 

Having spent the last campaign impressing in the Premier League whilst on loan with Crystal Palace, and having done enough to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England World Cup squad this summer, the midfielder must feel that he has what it takes to break into the Blues’ first team this season.

The 22-year-old certainly has quality, but at this stage in his career he needs to be playing week in week out, especially if he is to maintain his international involvement. 

With the likes of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Cesc Fabregas, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley all vying alongside Loftus-Cheek for first team action in the centre of the park at Chelsea though, getting regular minutes could prove a struggle for the Englishman whose urge to stay will only increase Maurizio Sarri's selection headache in midfield.
