According to The Guardian, Ruben Loftus-Cheek has rejected the opportunity to join German club Schalke on loan, in favour of staying and fighting for his place at Stamford Bridge.
Having spent the last campaign impressing in the Premier League whilst on loan with Crystal Palace, and having done enough to be included in Gareth Southgate’s England World Cup squad this summer, the midfielder must feel that he has what it takes to break into the Blues’ first team this season.
The 22-year-old certainly has quality, but at this stage in his career he needs to be playing week in week out, especially if he is to maintain his international involvement.
With the likes of Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, Cesc Fabregas, Danny Drinkwater and Ross Barkley all vying alongside Loftus-Cheek for first team action in the centre of the park at Chelsea though, getting regular minutes could prove a struggle for the Englishman whose urge to stay will only increase Maurizio Sarri’s selection headache in midfield.
Many Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to give their views on Loftus-Cheek’s decision to remain in London…
Presently, I’d take Piazon as the LCM over RLC….

That Ruben Loftus Cheek is ready to stay and fight for his starting XI spot shows that he's a blue through and through. If he stays I definitely expect our midfield of Barkley RLC Jorginho Kovacic and Kante to step up and give us some of the goals we lacked last season. #cfc

Lol hope he realizes he’s now 3rd behind kovacic and Barkley. Loan deal the best option for him

Should go out on loan to schalke. They’re a very good team. Not crystal palace.

Won’t get enough game time at Chelsea. Kante-Jorginho-Kovacic and Cesc on the bench or alternating with Kovacic. Plus Barkley who can play very well on his day. He can stay for league cup/ Emirates Cup early stages games. Nothing more

Loftus Cheek is 22 he knows that he has to make an impact at Chelsea now or he never will. Smart decision staying, nobody is going to take loan performances seriously at this age.
