Chelsea fans hail Giroud’s goalscoring antics for France

Olivier Giroud was crowned a World Cup winner in the summer, but he failed to score a single goal for France during the tournament.

It was not through lack of trying, but the Chelsea striker struggled to find the back of the net.

On Sunday, Les Bleus were in competitive action for the first time since becoming world champions in Russia as they took on the Netherlands in a Nations League clash.

The match ended 2-1 in favour of Didier Deschamps’s side, with Kylian Mbappe opening the scoring.

Ryan Babel found an equaliser for the visitor in the 67th minute, but it was Giroud who stole the headlines as he nabbed the winning goal with 15 minutes left on the clock.

The former Arsenal star, who scored 73 Premier League goals for the Gunners, managed to get across from Virgil van Dijk and volley the ball past the goalkeeper.

It ended a 10-game international drought for Giroud, and on social media a number of Chelsea fans were quick to praise the striker, who has only played a bit-part role under manager Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge so far this season.
