Michy Batshuayi came off the bench to score in Chelsea’s 4-1 win against Southampton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Indeed, the Belgium international entered the field in the 84th minute before scoring five minutes later – finding the back of the net with a smart finish after good work from Christian Pulisic, who was also introduced off the bench.
There is no getting away from the fact that it has been a frustrating season for the centre-forward, whose only start this term came in the EFL Cup against Grimsby Town.
That said, the 26-year-old appears to have overtaken Olivier Giroud in the pecking order as the Frenchman was again left out of the squad against Southampton.
Batshuayi appeared off the bench for a fifth successive Premier League game at St Mary’s and certainly sent a message to Frank Lampard by finding the back of the net.
