Chelsea's only hope of rejuvenating the squad this season lies in promoting youth and giving opportunities to players who have come back on loan, and it looks like one player in particular will get that chance.

Kurt Zouma, who got plenty of game-time under Jose Mourinho, has spent the last two seasons on loan at Stoke and Everton.

He played in Chelsea's most recent friendly, and despite suffering a 1-0 defeat to Kawaski Frontale - a game that Zouma started in - Lampard has confirmed he plans to keep the defender in the squad for the upcoming campaign.

Last season's central defenders included David Luiz, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, so the Frenchman's return will add some extra depth to a side battling domestic commitments as well as Champions League football.
