Loads of Chelsea fans would oppose the Stamford Bridge outfit making a swoop to re-sign AFC Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake, two-and-a-half years after he moved to the south coast on a permanent deal.

Ake transferred to Chelsea from youth club Feyenoord in 2011, but made just 12 first-team appearances with the West London side before joining the Cherries on loan in 2016. A recall that winter by Antonio Conte would return just a further five outings, with just one of those being a start in the Premier League.

The Dutch international had wanted to earn a chance of regular football at Stamford Bridge, but committed his future to Bournemouth after his recall yielded so few appearances - moving to the Vitality Stadium.

As part of the deal, Chelsea took possession of a £40m buy-back clause and are exploring the potential of triggering the agreement in January, according to the Telegraph, should the Court of Arbitration lift their FIFA imposed transfer ban early.

Loads of supporters would not welcome the 11-cap centre-half back at the Bridge, though, as many feel the 24-year-old would not be the 'world-class' upgrade Frank Lampard needs.

Ake is averaging 1.2 successful tackles from 1.5 attempts per ninety minutes in the Premier League this season, according to data collected by WhoScored, along with 1.8 interceptions, 4.3 clearances, 1.9 blocks, 1.4 successful aerial duels from 2.6 battles and is committing 0.3 fouls.

Those averages would rank the Den Haag-born defender third for successful tackles per ninety minutes among Chelsea's centre-back's, excluding Antonio Rudiger due to the German only playing 46 minutes this season. Ake would also rank third for interceptions, second for clearances, first for blocks, fourth for successful aerial duels and fourth for fouls committed.
