Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic has been ruled out of action for around three weeks following his injury on international duty. The Serbian defender, usually imperial, has struggled to replicate even a glimpse of his form that saw the Blues lift the Premier League just five months ago.

The West London outfit are in 16th position after just two wins in their opening eight games, along with four losses to the likes of Manchester City, Crystal Palace, Everton and Southampton.

Ivanovic has been the subject of abuse from a section of Chelsea fans online so far this season, who find it hard to believe manager Jose Mourinho constantly selects as a first-team regular.

Since his arrival at Stamford Bridge in 2008, the former Lokomotiv Moscow defender has been a key part of their success, winning two Premier League titles, along with the Champions League, Europa League and both domestic cup competitions.

However, fans who previously adored him appear to relishing a brief spell without the player, as summer signing Baba Rahman may finally be given a chance to shine.
