With Manchester City having dropped points earlier this afternoon against Middlesbrough, Chelsea were given the added incentive ahead of the clash with Everton of knowing that a win would send them top of the table. Granted, the Blues, even if they do get the victory, may only be atop the pile for less than 24 hours as both Arsenal and Liverpool play tomorrow, but it would certainly be a signal of intent following their recent run of form.

And the game has started brilliantly for the Londoners, who smashed a quickfire double through Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso to go 2-0 up. There were suggestions that Pedro may have been interfering with play to enough of a degree to render the first goal void due to him being offside, but Everton could do little to stop Alonso’s effort, which capped a neat move.

It may be early days, but Chelsea fans are certainly cheery in the wake of their team’s start, with some even predicting a title win already!
