Having arrived from Real Madrid last summer on a loan deal, Mateo Kovacic had an inconsistent debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.

The midfielder featured 51 times across all competitions last season under former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri, but managed no goals and just two assists.

However, as confirmed by the club's official website, the Blues have completed the permanent signing of the Croatian World Cup finalist and he has now signed a five-year deal with the west London side.

After hearing the news, Chelsea fans took to Twitter to reveal their thoughts on the signing and many were understandably excited at seeing the club turn Kovacic's stay at the club permanent.

Indeed, some supporters pointed out the irony in the club signing a new player despite a supposed transfer ban and appeared to mock the club's London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham for their lack of activity.

A few fans hoped that after having a season to settle into the pace and intensity of English football, the 25-year-old would kick-on in his second season at Stamford Bridge and add some goals from midfield to his game.
