Football Insider is reporting that Leeds United are interested in taking Reece James on loan in January.

What's the story?

The Whites are currently fighting for promotion to the Premier League, and they currently lie sixth in the Championship. However, if they are to reach the promised land, some extra additions would not go amiss.

As such, they are reportedly eyeing the 19-year-old as a potential new recruit.

Could be a good move

James had a fantastic season at Wigan Athletic last term.

He played 45 out of a possible 46 games in the Championship, scoring three goals and providing three assists in the process. Such were his performances for the Latics, he even picked up the club's Player of the Year award.

His form in Lancashire last season has seen him earn a place in Frank Lampard's plans, and the right-back has made his first two starts for Chelsea already. The first came in the League Cup against Grimsby Town whilst the second was against Lille in the Champions League.

However, Cesar Azpilicueta is the captain of the club and plays in his position.

Whether James has a bright future ahead of him or not, he is unlikely to get much game time as it stands, and having done well in both of the games he featured in this term, it would be a shame to see him spend too much time on the bench.

He already has a good pedigree in the second tier, which means that Marcelo Bielsa should be delighted to add him to his squad.

All in all, it would be a deal that works out for everyone. And then, when he returns next summer, he could be primed to take Azpilicueta's spot on a long-term basis.
