Chelsea fans slam Marcos Alonso’s efforts in EFL Cup exit to Manchester United

Loads of Chelsea fans have been slamming the efforts of Marcos Alonso in the Blues’ Carabao Cup exit to Manchester United.

The 28-year-old had a troublesome night against the Red Devils on Wednesday when he was deemed to have fouled Daniel James in the box early in the first-half, with Marcus Rashford converting the subsequent spot-kick.

His game failed to pick up after that, with Alonso going on to commit a range of poor challenges against the Welsh winger, even though the Swansea product made his intentions clear early on.

Alonso has been Frank Lampard’s go-to left-back of late. The former Spain international has been tasked with holding down duties in the Blues’ last four Premier League games since coming on to replace an injured Emerson Palmieri against Liverpool.

One Chelsea fan has described watching Alonso play as ‘the greatest torture known to man’, though, after he proved a poor defensive option against Manchester United.

Alonso won three tackles against the Red Devils and penned four interceptions, but was naïve in the incident which saw referee Paul Tierney point to the spot.

He was also dispossessed twice, with possession only taken from Michy Batshuayi on more occasions for the hosts.
