Chelsea host Barcelona in the first leg of their last 16 Champions League knockout tie at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night following their 4-0 win against Hull City in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Stamford Bridge on Friday, and Blues fans have urged manager Antonio Conte to play a 3-4-3 formation instead of a 3-5-2 system against the La Liga leaders.
The Premier League holders face the daunting match against the Catalan giants in midweek having played a 3-4-3 system against the Championship side on Friday, but it remains to be seen whether Conte will be willing to go with such an attacking setup on Tuesday.
With Willian, Pedro and Eden Hazard all in form that formation would certainly make more sense if the Italian boss is willing to go for the win, but he could easily line up with three central midfielders in order to give his team more control in the middle of the park like he has previously.
Chelsea fans would prefer to see their team line up in a 3-4-3 formation though, and while one said ‘Conte please 3-4-3 against Barcelona’, another said “might as well have a good go at them with a 3-4-3 and see what we can do”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
We have a chance against Barcelona..Don't waste it again by 3-5-2. Better fight it out with 3-4-3 with willian and hazard with support of fabregas and Kante..Come on Chelsea let's repeat 2012 Show@ChelseaFC#Chelsea#antonio conte

Azpilicueta, Christensen, Rudiger
Zappacosta, Fabregas, Kante, Alonso
Willian, Morata, Hazard
My line up vs Barcelona.
Barcelona not being as physical as your normal English side will help Morata. He could do bits. But we’ll see

I think against barcelona… 3-4-3 would be more preferred Hazard Morata and Pedro then rudiger for cahil

There’s no doubt in my mind willian has to start in a 3-4-3 against Barcelona , he’s been better than Pedro for months and also bakayoko should be nowhere near this team so that eliminates a 3-5-2

3-4-3 against Barcelona

It would be a shame if Conte plays 3-5-2 against Barcelona. As much as I'm aware of Barca's quality, 3-5-2 would be like already giving up. Might as well have a good go at them with a 3-4-3 and see what we can do.

Yes. If we start a 352 we will be more solid defensively but our attack will be so one dimensional. Playing 343 we can attack in various forms despite being a little bit more loose centrally. It's only Barcelona not 1970 Brazil we have to remember. BTW don't wanna see us sit back

Chelsea Team I would play on Tuesday: (3-4-3) Courtois; Rudiger, Christensen, Apzi; Zappacosta, Kante, Cesc, Alonso; Willian, Morata, Hazard 😃 Won’t be shocked at the 3-5-2 with Willian dropping out for Drinkwater or Bakayoko if Conte decides to match Barca in midfield 😃⚽️
