Chelsea given green light for striker swoop

Jose Mourinho 1

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has been given the go ahead to sign a new striker in January to help Chelsea’s title challenge, according to the Daily Mail.

Mourinho is frustrated by the fact that £50million man Fernando Torres and Champions League winner Samuel Eto’o have fired just two goals between them over the opening ten games of the season, while Demba Ba is yet to register a goal this season.

Saturday saw Chelsea fall to a shock 2-0 defeat at Newcastle, and Arsenal’s win later in the day meant Mourinho’s men currently find themselves five points off the top.

The Special One is adamant he needs to make changes to his front line, and the search for a top class striker has already begun.

Liverpool forward Luis Suarez would fit the bill perfectly for the Blues, especially considering he is eligible to play Champions League football.

However the Reds remain adamant they will not be selling their prized asset this season, especially to a Premier League rival.

Chelsea are also unable to recall Romelu Lukaku from his loan spell at Everton in January. The Belgian has already fired five league goals for the Toffee’s since joining on a season long loan on transfer deadline day.

While Fernando Torres has shown a big improvement this season, the Spaniard was substituted during Saturday’s defeat and replaced by Samuel Eto’o. The summer signing from Anzhi Makhachkala, has only scored one goal since arriving at Stamford Bridge – in the 4-1 home win over Cardiff City.
