Chelsea happy to play waiting game in transfer pursuit

Manchester United Striker Wayne RooneyJose Mourinho has reiterated his desire to sign Wayne Rooney and is prepared to wait until “the last day” of the transfer window, The Daily Mail reports.

Chelsea have had two offers for the disgruntled Manchester United striker rejected, the most recent of which was a £25million offer made on Sunday.

Commenting on his pursuit of Rooney again though, Mourinho said: “There is no time limit on it.

“We have identified the player as one we would like to have with us. We have done it in an ethical way and we are going to do that until the last day. We are doing things legally, making the official bid directly to the club.

“There have been no direct relations with the player, no contact — absolutely nothing. So let’s see if things change.”

Meanwhile, United’s long-running pursuit of Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas appears to be drawing to an end after the Spaniard said at a press conference yesterday that he wishes to remain at the Nou Camp.

“Triumphing in Barcelona is what I have been hoping for all my life, it’s been my dream since I was a child. I haven’t spoken to any other club in the last two years,” Fabregas said.

A United spokesman commented: “We appreciate Cesc is a contracted player at Barcelona and completely respect everything Cesc has said.”
