Chelsea are hopeful that offering Nemanja Matic as a part of a deal for Juventus’ Paul Pogba will allow them to beat a host of interested sides to the Frenchman’s signature this summer, according to reports from HITC.
The former Manchester United trainee has been a huge hit since completing his free transfer to Turin in 2012, helping the Old Lady to win the Serie A title in each of his three seasons, while also playing a key role in their run to last term’s Champions League Final.
Naturally, a host of big clubs such as Barcelona and Bayern Munich are keen, but reports claim that Chelsea are hopeful of winning the race for the 22-year-old’s signature, with a swap deal including Matic being considered.
The Serbia international moved back to the west of London from Benfica in January 2014 and helped the Blues to clinch the Premier League title in his first full campaign.
However, his form has dropped off a cliff this season, and talks regarding a new contract have stalled.
Interestingly, Chelsea look set to name Antonio Conte as their next manager.
The Italian coached Pogba at Juventus before leaving in 2014 and is widely credited as being a key figure in the extraction of the midfielder’s potential.
