The 6 foot 1 midfielder has spent the last four years at Zenit St. Petersburg, registering 156 appearances across all competitions and helping them win a Russian Premier League title in 2015.
But the 27-year-old looks set to leave the club during the summer window, with his contract due to expire at the end of next season and a number of Premier League clubs chasing his signature.
Indeed, Everton and Liverpool have both been linked with the Belgium international, who made five appearances at Euro 2016, frequently in recent weeks.
But Chelsea are also known to have an interest and according to Mirror Football, they’ve now staged a late bid to gazump the Merseyside duo to Witsel’s services.
It’s further claimed the midfielder would prefer a move to London rather than the northwest, which has seen the Blues move into pole position.
