The German international, who was selected in Joachim Lowe’s Euro 2016 squad, only officially signed for the Stadio Olimpico outfit yesterday.
They activated a clause to acquire him permanently following a season-long loan from Hamburg that saw him make 37 appearances across all competitions and help Roma to a third-place finish in Serie A.
But according to Il Tempo, the 23-year-old centre-back could be on the move again already, with Chelsea reportedly in talks to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
The Italian publication claim negotiations between both clubs are already underway and could be wrapped up at any moment.
Although Chelsea have agreed a one-year contract extension with veteran skipper John Terry, they still need a long-term successor to the 35-year-old and Rudiger is a strong candidate.
He’s already capped ten times at senior level and impressed last season, averaging 1.5 tackles, 1.5 interceptions and 3.2 clearances per match in Serie A.
