Chelsea in transfer talks for £60.7m ace, Euro giants need to sell to fund deals

Chelsea are in talks regarding a deal for James Rodriguez, with Real Madrid chasing a €70m (£60.7m) fee for the playmaker’s signature, according to reports from Sport.

The Colombia international only joined Los Blancos in the summer of 2014 after a fine World Cup campaign, and despite impressing in his debut season he’s slipped down the pecking order at the Bernabeu over the course of the last 12 months.

Indeed, Rodriguez is now behind the likes of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo and Isco, as well as youngsters Lucas Vazquez and Marco Asensio, under Zinedine Zidane, which has thrown his future into doubt.

And reports claim that Chelsea are working on a deal for the player, with Real keen to raise £60.7m through his sale to fund their own transfer pursuits ahead of the looming deadline.

It’s claimed that talks are underway surrounding a deal, which would, if the aforementioned sum is matched, smash the London club’s transfer record and make the 25-year-old the marquee buy of Antonio Conte’s first window in charge of the Blues.
