Chelsea join Arsenal in race for striker

Luis Suarez

Chelsea are preparing a £40million bid for Liverpool striker Luis Suarez after Arsenal were knocked back with their attempted bid over the weekend, according the Daily Mirror.

Liverpool are determined to keep hold of their star striker, who has been attempting to engineer a move away from Anfield this summer, citing unfair treatment by the British press as his reason.

The Uruguyan has seemingly been hoping for a move to Real Madrid, although the Spanish giants are yet to make any sort of move for the forward.

Arsenal became the first side to test Liverpool’s resolve at the weekend, which saw them have a £30million bid knocked back.

It is reported that Suarez has a clause in his contract which states the club will have to listen to any offers of £40million, and it appears Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea are going to be the next to test the water.

While Suarez has alluded to the fact he does not want to stay in the Premier League, but the money at Chelsea’s disposal may make things interesting.

Mourinho has the full backing of Roman Abramovich to acquire a world class striker, and with the club already knocked back in their attempts to sign Edison Cavani, Hulk and Radamel Falcao, they have now set their sights on Suarez.
