Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is keen to secure a summer deal for Roma midfielder Daniele De Rossi, according to reports from talkSPORT.

Premier League rivals Manchester City have been monitoring the Italian for some time, but their interest is thought to have cooled now that Roberto Mancini is no longer at the helm.

It was reported that they came close to making an offer last year, but De Rossi himself was unwilling to leave his boyhood club.

However, since then Roma have continued to struggle domestically, and even missed out on Europa League qualification last term.

A change in the way the club is run has also seen the 29-year-old grow disillusioned with life at the Stadio Olimpico, and now he is said to be willing to make a move.

This has alerted Mourinho, who is a big fan of the enforcer since his time managing Inter Milan in Serie A.

‘The Special One’ is looking to impose his own style on his newly inherited squad, and sees the combative De Rossi as somebody who can add leadership and personality to his midfield.

The Italian international has spent his entire career with Roma, and is seen as the club’s second most influential player behind Francesco Totti.
