Chelsea launch £37.7m bid to edge out Everton in transfer battle

Chelsea have lodged a €45m (£37.7m) bid for Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly, according to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Senegalese centre-back has emerged as one of the Blues’ top targets since the arrival of Antonio Conte, with the Italian thought to be keen to build his new-look west London defence around the 6ft. 5” enforcer.

Alongside Chelsea, Everton have also been aligned with the 25-year-old, but reports claim that Chelsea have launched a whopping £37.7m move for the giant centre-back.

Should a move go through, Conte’s spending at Stamford Bridge will reach the £100m mark after deals for Michy Batshuayi and N’Golo Kante cost just over £60m altogether.

There’s no indication as to whether or not Napoli will accept the offer, but Di Marzio also claims that a €22m (£18.4m) move for Nikola Maksimovic of Torino has been launched by the Serie A side – he could be a direct centre-back replacement – while Koulibaly’s agent has revealed this week that his client is seat to “leave” Naples.
