Chelsea launch move to beat Arsenal to amazing striker, contact made

Chelsea have made initial contact regarding a move for Arsenal-linked Inter Milan ace Mauro Icardi, according to reports from CalcioMercatoWeb.

The Argentine forward has emerged as one of the most sought-after forwards in European football this summer, with his 16 goals in 33 Serie A games last season having further bolstered his fine reputation.

There have been serious links between Icardi and Arsenal, while Napoli are understood to be willing to pay €70m (£60.2m) for the South American as they seek to replace Gonzalo Higuain, but reports claim that Chelsea are firmly in the running with contact having been made regarding a move for the energetic attacker.

It’s understood that Antonio Conte sees the 23-year-old as a genuine option to bolster his forward line with negotiations regarding a swoop for Everton’s Romelu Lukaku stalling.

Chelsea have already signed Michy Batshuayi this summer, but with Radamel Falcao and Alexandre Pato having been axed and Bertrand Traore having moved to Ajax on loan, the London club are short of options up top.
