Chelsea leading race for ‘new Ibra’, £9.4m offer on the table

As reported by ESPN, Chelsea have emerged as favourites to sign highly rated Swedish teenager Alexander Isak from AIK having reportedly already made a bid close to £10m.

Done deal?

Any deal for the striker is not quite yet over the line yet with PSG also enquiring about his availability.

However, a source close to the Swedish club told ESPN: “Inside the club, Chelsea are the favourites and have already proposed €11m (£9.4m).”

That’s a significant chunk of change for a 17-year old but the young Swede is already drawing comparisons with Zlatan Ibrahimovic after a sensational debut season as a pro.

Is he that good?

Tall, agile, skilful and Swedish, there’s probably no escaping comparisons to the iconic Ibrahimovic but it isn’t just idle chat. He’s backing up the hype with performances on the pitch.

Isak has scored 13 goals in 29 appearances for AIK this year helping his side to 2nd place and European qualification in Allsvenkan.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic

In comparison, Ibrahimovic scored 14 in 29 appearances in his first full season in the same division. Although not quite emulating the great man, he’s certainly gone a long way to proving he has star potential.

If Chelsea do sign him it’s unlikely he’ll feature for the first-team straight away but in willing to meet the near £10m price tag, it’s clear they see him as a star in years to come.
