Chelsea legend John Terry shares a throwback snap of the 2008 UEFA awards

Premiership Picks

When you think of Chelsea under Avram Grant you don’t immediately think of one of the greatest teams Europe has ever seen, do you?

No, the Israeli manager’s time at Stamford Bridge isn’t remembered all that fondly – partly due to the fact he had the nearly impossible task of replacing Jose Mourinho.

However, in terms of individual achievements in the squad, it may have to go down as one of the most fantastic sides ever assembled.

The snap shows just how good Chelsea’s squad was that year as they almost completed a clean sweep at the UEFA awards.

Petr Cech, Terry and Frank Lampard were named as the best goalkeeper, defender and midfielder respectively, and they shared the stage with Cristiano Ronaldo, who was named as the Forward of the Year and the Player of the Year.

In retrospect, Chelsea’s 2008 squad may be one of the strongest teams ever assembled, and if it wasn’t for Terry slipping in that fateful penalty shootout in Moscow they may have been remembered as such.
