Chelsea looking to beat Man United to Dutch ace

Chelsea have launched a £30m move to beat Manchester United to Roma midfielder Kevin Strootman, according to reports from The Express.

The Holland star only joined the Italian giants last summer in a £15m deal from PSV Eindhoven, but he’s already been linked with a move to Old Trafford following an impressive season – which was halted early by injury – at the Stadio Olimpico.

Louis van Gaal is known to be a massive fan of the fiery 24-year-old, with their relationship understood to be strong following their time together in the Oranje set-up.

However, reports now claim that Jose Mourinho is desperate to beat his rivals to the enforcer, with the wheels in motion for a £30m January move.

Roma have insisted that they’re not looking to sell Strootman, but a healthy profit on a player just returning from a serious knee injury may tempt them.

Although LVG knows the player, Chelsea’s ability to offer almost certain Champions League qualification and an immediate shot at the Premier League title may sway the Dutchman.
