Chelsea looking to use big chunk of £140m budget to beat Man United to creative ace

Chelsea are readying a big money move for Real Madrid’s James Rodriguez as they gear up for a late summer transfer splurge, according to reports from Sport.

The Blues, who opened the new Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over West Ham, have been relatively quiet during the current window in terms of incomings, with only £65m duo N’Golo Kante and Michy Batshuayi signed.

However, Antonio Conte is understood to have £140m available to him for the coming few weeks, and reports claim that a huge offer for Rodriguez is being prepared.

The Colombian, who was the subject of a £33.6m offer from Manchester United last month, has fallen down the pecking order at Real Madrid under manager Zinedine Zidane, with the likes of Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco, Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and even youngster Marco Asensio apparently ahead of him in the pecking order.

Despite having only been signed in 2014, the 26-year-old looks likely to leave before the coming deadline, with Chelsea keen to offer him an escape route.
