To the amazement of many, the two players said to be on offer to United were Juan Mata or David Luiz, along with £10million.
The Old Trafford club have persistently said that Rooney is going nowhere this summer, and have warned Chelsea against lodging a second bid as they do not want him moving to another Premier League club.
Rooney himself is said to be ‘angry and confused’ following comments made by David Moyes, seemingly suggesting that the 27-year-old would act as cover for Robin van Persie.
“Overall, my thought on Wayne is that if for any reason we had an injury to Robin van Persie we are going to need him and I want as many options as possible,” Moyes said.
After nine seasons with United, Rooney feels he has nothing to prove, and also believes he is at the peak of his career.
He repeated again his intention to leave United following his return from their tour last week with a hamstring injury.
Rooney does not want to suffer by merely being a squad player under Moyes, with the World Cup just a year away.
The Red Devils have discussed where he could move, and are thought to favour Paris Saint-Germain as a buyer.
Jose Mourinho however, looks intent on signing Rooney, claiming that England’s World Cup aspirations will suffer if he is not a first-choice player.
