Chelsea midfielder wants Stamford Bridge exit

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel is ready to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, reports the Mirror.

The midfielder is unhappy with the amount of playing time he has had since the arrival of Nemanja Matic in the winter transfer window. The Nigerian has appeared just 5 times in the Premier League since Matic moved to London at the end of January.

Despite having three years left on his Chelsea contract, Mikel is ready to leave Jose Mourinho’s side, in search of regular first team action. Galatasaray are reportedly interested in the midfielder, with Serie A sides expected to also make a move for the Nigerian.

However, Chelsea aren’t expected to lose Mikel on the cheap, with Mourinho intent on having a strong depth in squad. The Portuguese boss has played a number of players in Mikel’s defensive midfield role, including Frank Lampard, Ramires and David Luiz alongside new signing Matic.

Mikel joined Chelsea in controversial circumstances back in 2006, a year after he had claimed to had joined Manchester United. The Red Devils even had a statement on their website saying they had signed Mikel, only for Chelsea to claim they had struck a deal with Mikel. The Blues eventually signed Mikel and paid United in compensation, but it appears Mikel’s Stamford Bridge career could be ended this summer after 8 years with the club.
