According to The Mirror, Chelsea are considering a shock deadline day move for Watford’s Abdoulaye Doucoure, who has been linked with a move to PSG this month – the Blues’ interest is surely bad news for one player in particular at Stamford Bridge.
Well, The Mirror reports that, following a 4-0 loss to Bournemouth on Wednesday night, Chelsea are keen to add some more bite into the midfield and see the Frenchman as the man to give them just that.
The dynamic enforcer has been a key player for the Hornets this season and his performances have put him on the radar of European giants, PSG – per the man himself, speaking on French show Canal Plus.
Hertfordshire outfit Watford are determined to keep the 26-year-old destroyer, per Sky Sports, however that seemingly hasn’t deterred fellow Prem club Chelsea, who could test their resolve before the window slams shut. If they can pull off the surprise swoop, Doucoure’s arrival would surely spell the end of Tiemoue Bakayoko’s Blues career.
The former Monaco man had a torrid time during his first season in West London and was deemed surplus to requirements going into the 18/19 season – the 24-year-old was subsequently sent out on loan to AC Milan and, after a poor start, has begun to show glimpses of why Chelsea shelled out £36m for him a year-and-a-half ago.
A powerful holding midfielder, Bakayoko is very much of a similar mould to Doucoure – the latter, though, is far more adept on the front foot, while the former is relatively one-dimensional.
There is surely only room for one six-foot-plus, tough-tackling Frenchman in Maurizio Sarri’s midfield and Doucoure offers far more to the game; have we seen the last of Bakayoko in a blue shirt?
