According to reports in Dutch media outlet De Telegraaf at the weekend, Arsenal are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn, and their Premier League rivals Chelsea should be looking to hijack any move.

What's the word, then?

Steven Bergwijn shoots at goal

Well, De Telegraaf report that the Gunners, along with fellow top-six rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, are keen to bring the exciting attacker, rated at €15-20m (£13.1-£17.5m) by the Eredivisie champions, to England.

The 20-year-old played a key role in PSV winning the Dutch top flight title last term, and he would certainly provide some much-needed pace in wide areas that has perhaps been missing following the departures of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott over the course of the last 12 months.

The forward is capped at U21 level for the Netherlands but is yet to make his debut for the senior side, but that doesn't seem to have put off head of recruitment Sven Mislintat and new manager Unai Emery.

Meanwhile, Chelsea, whose fans have urged the club to bring an 84-cap international midfielder back to Stamford Bridge this summer, could be busy in the transfer market this summer following a miserable defence of their 2017 Premier League title.

How did Bergwijn do during the 2017/18 campaign?

He was excellent.

The wideman scored eight goals and provided a further 11 assists in 36 appearances in all competitions for PSV, while according to WhoScored.com he successfully completed 73 of the 113 dribbles he attempted.

The 20-year-old can play on either flank, but he primarily played on the right-hand side last term and with Eden Hazard already in the Chelsea squad, that is likely where he would play if he did move to Stamford Bridge.

Why should Chelsea sign him?

The likes of Willian and Pedro perhaps showed that they aren't good enough to be consistent starters for the Blues next term if some of their performances last season are anything to go by, and the west London outfit perhaps need more pace in wide areas.

Bergwijn would certainly provide that in abundance, and he has shown with his statistics that he would also bring plenty of quality in the final third, too.

The 20-year-old could be the perfect long-term replacement for Willian on the right-hand side, and they should move to snap him up ahead of their Premier League rivals this summer.
