The Frenchman completed a late switch to Stamford Bridge from QPR during the last window after impressing in his 18 months in English football – albeit last season he was on loan at Newcastle.
A move to Liverpool collapsed a matter of months ago after issues arose during his medical with the Reds, but a move to Arsenal was mooted before that, with the Gunners rumoured to have been very keen on the versatile attacker.
But Remy is adamant that he was nowhere near joining Chelsea’s bitter local rivals:
“Arsenal, I think they were talking with my agent a few years ago but they never wanted to sign me really because if they wanted they would have signed me a long time ago.” He is quoted by the Daily Star.
“When Chelsea came it was very good. They told me I can really enjoy being in this team, I can win titles.
“I spoke to the manager in Chelsea and he really wanted to sign me. I never spoke, for example with Wenger.
“He never took his phone and called me so the choice was quick.”
Remy was drafted in by Jose Mourinho to replace flop striker Fernando Torres after he completed a two-year loan move to AC Milan.
