Chelsea on alert as Spanish giants circle star trio

Torres, Mata, Azpilicueta

Barcelona are chasing Chelsea‘s trio of Spanish stars, according to the Daily Express.

The Catalan giants are said to be interested in bringing Juan Mata, Fernando Torres, and Cesar Azpilicueta to the Nou Camp, after Jose Mourinho failed to give first team assurances to any of the three.

Reports in Spain suggest Barcelona are monitoring the situation closely, with a view to making potential offers in the January transfer window.

Fernando Torres found himself linked with a return to Spain during the summer, and similar rumours are expected to start in January.

The Spaniard was the man of the match in last night’s 2-0 win over Swindon in the Capital One Cup, scoring one and making another. However the former Liverpool man still appears to be behind new signing Samuel Eto’o in the pecking order.

Meanwhile Juan Mata has endured a difficult start to the season after losing his place in the first team, with Jose Mourinho publicly claiming he saw Oscar as his first choice playmaker.

Right back Cesar Azpilicueta is yet to start a Premier League game this season, despite impressing during a run in the first team last season.

While all started during last night’s Capital One Cup tie, all are desperate for regular first team football ahead of the summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Mata reportedly came close to joining Paris St Germain on deadline day, while Fernando Torres was linked with a summer move to Valencia.
